Family Council

What is a Family Council?
The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care requires each Long Term Care Home to provide a forum for families and friends of residents. A Staff Advisor from the facility is usually appointed to support and facilitate the Council.

In general, the role of Family Council is to provide support to families and to advocate for residents. The Family Council is invaluable in its ability to welcome families of new residents to Parkwood. In the past, it has sponsored activities and educational events for interested family members, provided advocacy on behalf of residents to staff, and served in an advisory capacity to staff.
